Dear Larry,

26C was my Dad's raceplate number. The only two riders that ever held the same number after Dad quit in 1950 were Lloyd Flowers (1953-?) and Dick Schroeder, Falls Church, VA (1970's -?). The cold war got me, all I got to do was ride back and forth to work every day, long before it became fashionable. (history: In 1946 some 1,000+ riders signed up to race. Prior to the war the AMA was experimenting on a new number system. In 1947 the new numbering system was started. The country was divided into regions with an alpha character assigned to each region. Va riders had a "C" on their plates, OH got the letter "F". The only non alpha numbers were 1 thru 99. )

Some time ago (2006) I sent a copy of my book (on cd) and my motorcycle mag. database (on cd) as a donation to the new library the AMCA said it was going to build. President Gagan sent me a two sentence thank you letter. I don't know what he did with 20 plus years of research. It should be where the AMCA library is today. See the attached e-mail regarding my donation.

I have continued to add magazines and continue to build the Racers history database. For example, the number when I did Bobby Hills Race History has grown by some 5,000 more records. Just this month alone I have added some12 new magazines from 1940 to the digital database.
So as you can see, more mag.s are continually being indexed and the racers database is continuing to grow. The Racers history db runs now from 1934 to 1957.

I have been working on a revision of my work, adding chapters for 1940,1, 1951,52,53.

Was your father , Don or Dan Barnes? I have some records for an Ohio rider prior to and after WWII.

Regards,

Richard Lee Lyons
