Indian Motorcycle Rally- Celebrating George Hendee

(SUFFIELD, CT) The second annual Indian Motorcycle Rally fundraiser sponsored by Friends of the Farm at Hilltop (FOFAH) will be July 17, 2010 10am-4pm. Bikes of every make and model are welcome. Indian and Vintage bikes of all makes will be on display. A $20.00 per bike and $25.00 per car donation is suggested.

The property was part of the 500 acre farm of George Hendee, co-founder of the Indian Motorcycle Company in Springfield, MA. All proceeds will go towards restoring the 20,000 s/f Colonial Revival dairy barn built in 1914 that is currently undergoing a multi-year restoration to become an agricultural educational facility.

In addition to the many motorcycles on display, guests can eat, relax and enjoy live music by The Fever Band playing Blues, Classic Rock and R & B. George Hendee’s niece, June Hale Cook will be signing her newly released book, “A Tribute to George Mallory Hendee”. As a child she spent many days at her Uncle’s mansion that was torn down in the 60’s to make way for what is now Lincoln Institute. She has shared with FOFAH many of her photos of the beautiful mansion and they will be on display.

This year, we will also have the privilege to have Lisa Martin attending the rally. Her great-great Uncle, Oscar Hedstrom was also a co-founder of Indian motorcycle. He brought his expertise of engineering skills to the company. Together with Hendee, they made Indian Motorcycle Co the world’s largest manufacturer of it’s time.

To round out the weekend many local businesses are offering specials and gatherings to celebrate the rally. To name a few, on the 17th, The Still in Agawam plans an Indian Rally Party at their new location at 858 Suffield St., in Southgate Plaza. Six Flags New England offers park discounts for the Rally weekend that can be purchased by linking through the Indian Motorcycle website.
